Slideshow Builder Support

  1. Compatibility with iPhone OS 3.0
    1. Does Slideshow Builder v1.4.1 work in iPhone OS 3.0? »

Slideshow Builder v1.4.1 has some minor bugs when run against iPhone OS 3.0. The toolbar is not fixed correctly to the bottom of the screen and some slide animations do not display correctly.

    2. When will a version be available that is fully compatible with iPhone OS 3.0? »

Slideshow Builder v2.0.0 is fully compatible with iPhone OS 3.0. It has been in review with Apple since the 23rd June.

  2. Caption Problem in v1.4.0
    1. How are captions broken in v1.4.0? »

When you update a caption in v1.4.0 it will save the new caption correctly. However if you exit the slideshow and go back into it no caption will be displayed. Also, when you are in a slideshow no captions will be displayed unless it has just been added (and you haven't exited yet). If a caption is displayed then every slide afterwards will show the same caption.

    2. Are my caption updates being permanently saved? »

Yes your updates are being permanently saved, there are just not being displayed properly.

    3. Could I lose existing captions I have created? »

You will not lose any existing captions. If you update your caption the update will be saved.

    4. Is there a workaround? »

Not really. If you simply must see a caption in a slideshow then you could edit the photo, add the caption and then immediately play the slideshow. In this case the caption would be shown but every subsequent slide would also show this caption. However, we would recommend that you leave your captions alone until v1.4.1 is available.

    5. When will the fix be available? »

The fix was submitted to Apple on Saturday 18th April, within 5 hours of v1.4.0 being released. We will attempt to expedite the approval process with Apple but this normally takes 7-10 days.

    6. Why did this happen? »

The bug was introduced during the re-engineering of the slide-chooser when some 3rd party code that was introduced had an unexpected impact on the existing code-base. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience this has caused our users and we will endeavour to avoid another situation like this in the future.

  3. Security Passcode
    1. Can you reset my passcode if I forget it? »

No! We did not build a secret back-door reset into Slideshow Builder. On balance, we felt that this would create a number of security issues. Do not forget your passcode! If you do you will not be able to get your slideshows back.

    2. If I restore Slideshow Builder from a backup is my passcode retained? »

Yes your passcode will still be securely stored in the Keychain. It is important to recognise that we are using the standard (highly secure) Apple mechanism to achieve security in Slideshow Builder. Other apps simply store your passcode or password in plain text on your device. Do not forget your passcode! If you do you will not be able to get your slideshows back.

    3. If I delete and re-download Slideshow Builder will it allow access to my slideshows? »

No! This would be potentially insecure. your passcode will still be securely stored in the Keychain. It is important to recognise that we are using the standard (highly secure) Apple mechanism to achieve security in Slideshow Builder. Other apps simply store your passcode or password in plain text on your device. Do not forget your passcode! If you do you will not be able to get your slideshows back.

  4. Export or TV-Out Support
    1. Can I export my slideshow to a video? »

Apple don't have the necessary QuickTime libraries available for the iPhone, so its not possible to export to a movie until they do this. There is a chance that if Apple brings an iPhone that is capable of capturing videos they will add the Quicktime libraries at the same time.

    2. Can I output my slideshows to a TV or projector? »

Unfortunately at the moment Apple does not allow any 3rd party apps to output to a TV or projector via the standard dock connectors. It is possible that Apple will support this in the iPhone OS 3.0 release but it is has not been announced to date. If this functionality becomes available then we will certainly be looking to add this feature.

  5. Uploading Music Tracks
    1. Why am I getting a connection error when I try to connect? »

If you are having trouble connecting to the Music Uploader take a look at the explanation video. There are also a few things you can try yourself. Firstly some prerequisites. Your iPhone or iPod Touch must be connected to Wifi. You must have a computer that is on the same network that the iPhone/iPod Touch is connected to. This does not mean that your computer must be connected to Wifi, they just need to be able to access each other across the same local network (technically this means they need to be on the same subnet).

Next you need to be in the Music Uploader screen before you point your web browser at the required address. This means you need to go into a Slideshow, bring up the Slideshow Options, tap 'Selected Music' and then tap the + button in the top right of the screen. The last step is really important. You cannot upload any music until you do this.

If you are fairly certain you have the first 2 correct you should check you have entered the correct address. If you are on a Mac but cannot get the Mac instructions to work, you can try the PC instructions instead. If you are following the PC instruction take a close look at the address you must enter. Typically it is of the form http://192.168.3.1:8080 Notice the colon before the 8080 - this is easy to miss. Whist it is possible you have something different, double-check twice if you think your address is not of the form: 3 digits, period, 3 digits, period, 1 digit, period, 1-3 digits, colon, 8080.

    2. Why do I get a message warning me that the Advance View couldn't be loaded? »

This can sometimes happen if the network connection is very slow. Try refreshing your browser page. Otherwise, certain types of Flash-blockers stop the Advance View loading. Try right-clicking in the top-left of the browser (this is where the flash gets loaded) to see if you can add it to the blocker whitelist. Even still, in some cases the Flash blocker does not support the necessary pass-through (e.g. Click-To-Flash at the time of writing).

    3. I can't see Bonjour listed as an option in Safari's Collections. What do I do? »

Open Safari's preferences. Choose the Bookmarks tab. Make sure that the 'Include Bonjour' option is selected in 'Collections'.

    4. What is the maximum track size I can transfer? »

The maximum track size that can be transfered is technically 100Mb. However in practice we would recommend that if you have exceptionally long tracks you should consider splitting them into parts and uploading them individually to give your handheld device a better chance of dealing with them during playback.

    5. What types of music tracks can I transfer? »

You can transfer .mp3 or .m4a music tracks. Your tracks must be DRM free.

    6. The digits from the front of the trackname are missing. Why? »

The Music Uploader will display the name of your track in 2 ways. Firstly it will check if it is an mp3 with a trackname stored in an ID3 tag. If so, it uses that. If not it will use a tidied up version of the filename. One of the ways we tidy it is to remove the common occurrence of a 2-digit track number being added as a prefix to the filename.

    7. Why can't I just use music in my iPod libary? »

Unfortunately until iPhone OS 3.0 came out Apple simply did not allow any 3rd party apps to access the music stored in the iPod library. There really wasn't any way around this. We came up with the Music Uploader as a way to work around this severe limitation. Now that access to the iPod library is available in iPhone OS 3.0 we will be adding support for it soon.

    1. I've found a bug. Will you fix it? »

    2. The app keeps crashing. What should I do? »

If the app is crashing all the time - do not uninstall!! We would never knowingly ship an app that crashes so either the problem is unique to your iphone or it is a bug that we haven't seen yet. You may have a problem with very low memory on your device. In this case, try restarting it to see if the problem goes away. If not then email us and we will prioritise looking at the problem. We hate it if Slideshow Builder crashes too!

    3. Why should I get in touch? Isn't it more effective to just leave a bad review? »

If you are having a problem with Slideshow Builder please don't just leave us a bad review or even worse, uninstall the app with an accompanying 1-star review. Yes it will probably have the most impact on our sales but it gives us virtually zero chance to actually fix your problem. We always intend that are our apps will work 100% of the time and if that's not your experience then it's our job to sort it out ASAP. Contact us via getsatisfaction.com or via email and we will do absolutely all that we can to work out what's gone wrong. We want to help!

    4. The app doesn't work with device X. Why not? »

It's news to us so get in touch via getsatisfaction.com or via email. We never intentionally ship an app that can be installed on device X but won't work. That would just be plain annoying for the users! If this is your experience then something has gone wrong and we need to get it fixed for you ASAP!

    5. I keep getting a warning about a cracked copy. What should I do? »

There are 2 possibilities. Either a) we have made a very big mistake and our code is detecting a cracked copy incorrectly. If so, *huge* apology. How unbelievably rude of us! Get in touch so we can sort it out for you. Or b) you have a cracked copy. In that case you should evaluate if you like our app with Slideshow Builder Lite and if you do you should stump up the money for Slideshow Builder. Seriously. It has been made by an indie developer. It costs less than a cup of coffee. It has taken months of work. Nuff said!
